To Whom It May Concern:
Since the last submission of the writing notebook I have become more knowledgeable about phonology. I have learned more about professional writing through obtaining knowledge about active voice, nominalization, antecedents, and choosing the appropriate verbs when writing a paper. Learning about these has allowed me to become a better writer and has made my writing more clear. I think that I now get my point across in a more effective manor. I have also furthered my knowledge about assessment of phonological disorders and treatment of phonological disorders. I have learned more about speech samples and what constitutes the most effective type of sample. During the phonology review I obtained knowledge that could be used to assess the phonological system through analysis of all components. These are all things I have learned since the last submission.
I have learned how to more effectively search on the internet for material related to a topic I am researching. I think that I have become more effective through practice. I have learned how to write a position paper, technical report, and how to do a literature review. Learning how to do a literature review has been very beneficial and will be a skill I continue to use throughout my career. I have learned how to better analyze information gained during a phonological assessment in order to begin to answer what the nature of the problem is.
My learning thus far is important to me as a future professional. As I have further developed my writing skills I have seen improvement in my professional writings. I am currently writing my thesis paper and I think the skills that I am developing through this class are allowing me to be a stronger writer and thus making my paper stronger. Learning about assessment and treatment techniques will help me become a better clinician to my clients who exhibit phonological disorders. My learning will help me develop as a better professional in the field of speech-language pathology.
Currently, I feel that I am grasping the information presented. However, I feel that I will be better equipped to apply my knowledge once theory is discussed in class. I do not have any questions about my learning since the last progress memo.
Thank you,
Whitney
